Google Analytics On Your Wiki Site (Get stats and reports)

I just created a "Google Analytics" account for my wiki site ( http://bbmclibrary.wetpaint.com/ ). When you set up an account at ( http://www.google.com/analytics/indexu.html ) you have to paste some code into your wiki site. It provides it for you, so all you have to do is cut and paste the code into your wiki site under "settings", then click on "statistics", then click on "google analytics" and it has an area for you to paste your code. After that you can get statistic reports every 24 hours on how many visits to your site there has been, how many page views, how many new visitors, and more. It is a cool tool, but might not be necessary for some projects and library settings. Does anyone here use it or have any ideas on how it could be useful?

I have thought about using Google Analytics. Currently I use Feedburner for my blog to get subscription statistics and information. Their Pro account is now free for everyone. Do you find this valuable?

I really like the idea of the analytics. It would help me answer a question I have had about a wiki I created to support instruction I am doing (one-shot) for a specific department. The question stems from the fact that I have no idea if the students are using the wiki and this would give me some idea. My plans are to add additional information and tutorials, and the analytics would help me know if the added effort is worth it. By "worth it", I mean worth the time to do maintenance, expansion, and use in other classes. Do you find this valuable?

Bryan, thanks for the idea. I just added Google Analytics to my blog. For anyone who is interested, if you are using blogger.com go to your blog and click on the "layout" tab then click on "edit html" and scroll down to the bottom of the html code then paste the code that Google Analytics gives you right before the </body></html> tags. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. I only added it to my wiki site just because I stumbled upon it. I didn't think to add it to my blog. Does anyone use Wordpress for their blog? I didn't see an area for "Google Analytics". It looks like they keep their own stats under "Dashboard" and then "Blog Stats". Let me know if any of you use analytics with Wordpress.

I do use this, but one thing to keep in mind is that Google Analytics isn't a 100% accurate measure of your web traffic. There are many scripts (such as <a href="http://noscript.net/" target="_blank">NoScript</a> with Firefox) that users can add on their browsers that won't count their hits and they're pretty popular. I find NoScript particularly helpful for an advertisement-free surfing & wiki experiences since I see 'Googleadservices.com' is a script on this page that currently isn't running. ;) 1  out of 1 found this valuable. " (such as NoScript with Firefox) "
Sorry, http://noscript.net/ ...apparently we can't hammer out HTML in replies!
