I'm also in Toledo (I work with Janice at Mulford) - her link to Middle Bass Island reminded me of the summers I spent at
Stone Lab (this
picture's better - you can see Cooke Castle; I can't believe that the bat house is still marked...thought it had been torn down...) as an undergrad on South Bass. My favorite island for "safari" was
North Bass, which was only accessible by special permission. (The best part of North Bass was the beach along the pointy southeast tail.)
