  • I'm really enjoying the hands-on learning. SS
  • The Wall Street Journal had an article in the March 10, 2008 issue, page R11, "Putting Ideas to Work: Knowledge management can make a difference--but it needs to be more pragmatic." The article states that "organizations with the best knowledge--creation programs define in advance the type of information they need and why they need it. " It goes on to say that these organizations "solicit ideas, insights and innovations from rank-and-file workers, customers and business partners." One method these organizations use is technology...wikis and blogs.
  • I'm a little late this week, but I am now completing all the exercises (Wed). I must admit that "hands on" activites are great. It does take some time (at least for me) to get use to looking at all the different features available. I wish we had more choices in colors. MCR
  • I am also enjoying learning all these fun things we can do with technology. I am not very good with computers but welcome the opportunity to learm more. XA
  • I'm enjoying learning about all this technology: I never saw a computer until the age of 35 and so the adage is true: you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. My department may actually start using the wiki I've created. KB
  • This is the most useful MLA educational experience I've ever had. Nothing like actually doing it. I find it extremely challenging to find 30 minutes to work on it but I've already learned a lot of useful information in an I-can-do-it atmosphere. My congratulations to MLA and particularly to our patient instructors. KW
  • I was sort of intimitdated about learning about blogs, RSS and Wikis. I knew I needed to because everyone is talking about using these tools. I am on the MLA membership committee and they were talking about using facebook and other tools. Now that I am in the second week and have created a blog and a wiki, I am learning that these can be useful tools for the reference librarian. Thanks MLA for providing this opportunity. Jeanbean
  • I am really enjoying this opportunity to get "hands-on" experience in Web 2.0 technologies. The first two weeks have been a great learning experience, and I'm looking forward to the next 6! SA
  • This is a great class. The hands-on component is really good. I'm also figuring out what websites my hospital has blocked to its employees. At least the hospital Wi-Fi for patients and families isn't blocked.

News: Welcome to Week 2: Wikis

  • The class blog will still serve as the primary contact and information source for class participants. However, please feel free to update the wiki as you see fit and to help get you more familiar with editing and using wikis.
  • I have to agree that this is one of the most innovative MLA CE classes I've ever participated in. I always learn a lot from the classes I take, but this is the most hands-on class I've experienced to date. The fact that the products we're building here don't have to be 'perfect' and are now on hand to be enhanced as time and creativity allows is very appealing. And, it's such a different experience creating the products using the tools as we go along, using our own imagination, yet connecting to the great ideas that others have as well. I'm a member of some forums and have posted some comments, sent 'letters' to web sites (e.g. 'bring back Jericho'; 'bring back Journeyman' - lucky on 1 count at least), and have learned a lot from other forum participants. But this class encourages me to be more active and creative (something I'm not). And, I can make it relevant to my work yet it doesn't feel like work. Thank you MLA course developers! DM
